  • I highly recommend Regency. They were kind and efficient and did not hard sell anything, so I trusted them and felt well cared for. Thank you Regency for treating us so well.

I could never recommend the services of Regency Mortuary, the facility that handled my mother's remains. My mother was found dead at her home in January, 2017 under what appears to be suspicious circumstances. All of her valuables and family heirlooms had been removed from her home by the time I learned of her death from a neighbor who took the initiative to contact me with the indication things did not appear “right” at her home.

I learned my mother’s body was cremated four days after her death by Regency Mortuary without notification or discussion with me or any of my mother’s many biological family members. Pursuant my inquiry, I was told by an agent of Regency Mortuary the cremation was purportedly authorized by my mother’s husband and/or his daughter who has no biological connection to my mother, and a woman whom my mother claimed she did not trust. The agent did not provide me with information regarding the whereabouts of my mother’s remains.

According to public records, Regency Mortuary is currently owned by John and Phil Perkes. I contacted Phil for additional information and explained that my mother died under suspicious circumstances. I made it very clear that neither I, nor my mother’s biological family, intend to hold Regency Mortuary accountable for the manner in which my mother’s remains were handled and that the purpose of my call was to seek information not provided to us.

Phil provided me with little information other than to rudely claim Regency Mortuary was “covered” [legally] after having received authorization to cremate my mother’s body. He then abruptly ended the call with the remark that he would not speak with me further and that additional communications would be handled through legal counsel.

I question why this mortuary would hastily cremate the remains of my mother’s body without qualifying the reason for the urgency for doing so, particularly when there was no announcement, service planned, or communication with biological family members. My mother had lived in the Phoenix Metro area since 1960 and certainly had many friends and family. Why did Phil not find the manner in which her cremation was ordered as unusual and worthy of further inquiry on his part?

I am of the opinion an experienced facility would have recognized the possibility of an agenda and would never recommend a mortuary that would not question the above and take the initiative to contact a biological family member. A simple Internet search would have revealed that I am my mother’s biological daughter along with my contact information. A telephone call offering condolences would have taken little time and effort on his part. I would have been very appreciative and grateful, as would my mother’s family, to know of her death prior to cremation.

Our hearts will be forever broken over my mother’s death and that we were provided no opportunity to pay our last respects.

  • Talk about making the best of a terrible situation. After the loss of my daughter, I decided to use Regency Mortuary due to their proximity to my home. I did not have the luxury of knowing ahead of time who to choose, but I am so glad we wound up in their caring hands. From first contact to last, John Perkes and his dad Phillip (the owner) treated us with compassion and consideration. We were allowed to handle things the way we wanted and were never pressured in any way at any stage of the process. Mine is a complicated family, and they helped us make beautiful selections for urns and blown glass memorials for each member of the family. When you need to make final arrangements, you will not find more caring and compassionate guides than the very good people at Regency Mortuary. I am forever grateful for their assistance.

  • Owned by my friend John. He is a very, honest and righteous individual that serves the community above par. Consider him if looking for a local, dignified funeral provider.

The facilities were nice, the process went smooth, but know that the day is over and done, I have tried to contact the owner more times than I can count, to talk about a problem with the life insurance claim that they processed for us. I can not get a call back, the insurance states that the documentation has not been submitted and it has been almost 4 months since my mom passed. This is not something I do normally, making complaints, but I feel powerless, and my Dad has been through enough.
